The Resident Assistant (RA) is the core of the Student Affairs Staff in NSU residence halls. RAs play a critical role in individual student and community growth and development. The quality of their efforts has a significant, direct bearing upon the quality of life experienced by all members of the university community.
NSU Resident Assistant Perks
- Must be a registered student at Nova Southeastern University, meeting the minimum academic requirements of the academic department.
- Undergraduate students must have a minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA.
- Must have one semester live-in experience prior to Fall 2025, not necessarily at NSU, or significant leadership experience. Must be in good judicial standing with the university (i.e., not above Written Warning).
- Willingness to make a commitment through the academic year (i.e., August - May) including training periods which begin approximately two weeks before the start of undergraduate fall classes.
- While in the RA position, any outside employment or internship is discouraged and must be approved by the Director of Residence Life.
Community Involvement and Development
- Strive and actively engage to develop a sense of community among residents on the floor and an identity as a floor, hall, and residential community member.
- Assist in residents developing communication, time management, well-being skills and competencies as well as affinity for NSU.
Individual Student Engagement
- Develop an open and genuine relationship with each resident while maintaining a high level of visibility and availability in your community.
- Learn about residents’ concerns, interests, and needs and work to provide engagement opportunities that are informed from knowledge gained from residents.
Recognition and Support
- Display interest and sensitivity to the concerns of our diverse population and refer residents, when necessary, to NSU and community resources.
- Recognize and celebrate the uniqueness of your residents and the NSU community.
Safety and Security
- Ensure the residence hall is a safe and secure environment to support residents.
- Communicate housekeeping and maintenance needs in a timely manner and follow up with appropriate parties.
Upholding Standards
- Encourage compliance with University policy and Residential Life policy by serving as a role model and addressing concerns around standard not being met.
- Educate residents about applicable policies and their responsibility to the larger NSU community.
Administrative Skills
- Complete the "on duty" responsibilities for your community.
- Complete administrative tasks that require accurate and timely execution.
Communication and Teamwork
- Demonstrate proficiency at expressing ideas and listening, asking for and providing productive feedback, and develop an effective communication style.
- Commitment and support to the Residence Life team.

- November 8th, 2024: Application goes live
- November 8th, 2024 - January 12th2025 : Various info sessions – you must attend an info session to receive an application
- January 12th, 2025, 11:59 pm: Deadline to submit your application
- January 27th, 2025 – January 31stth, 2025 (week of): Individual interviews (mandatory)
- Saturday, February 8th, 2025: Second interview process (mandatory)
- February 12th, 2025: Candidate meet and greet (optional)
- February 28th, 2025: Offers made via email
