The Resident Assistant (RA) is the core of the Student Affairs Staff in NSU residence halls. RAs play a critical role in individual student and community growth and development. The quality of their efforts has a significant, direct bearing upon the quality of life experienced by all members of the university community.

The RA hiring process is closed for 2025-2026. New applications will open November 2025.

Leadership Experience
RAs are the leaders or captains of their hallway! Learn how best to organize yourself to be a role model and someone residents look up to.

  • Must be a registered student at Nova Southeastern University, meeting the minimum academic requirements of the academic department.
  • Undergraduate students must have a minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA.
  • Must have one semester live-in experience prior to Fall 2025, not necessarily at NSU, or significant leadership experience. Must be in good judicial standing with the university (i.e., not above Written Warning).
  • Willingness to make a commitment through the academic year (i.e., August - May) including training periods which begin approximately two weeks before the start of undergraduate fall classes.
  • While in the RA position, any outside employment or internship is discouraged and must be approved by the Director of Residence Life.

Community Involvement and Development

  1. Strive and actively engage to develop a sense of community among residents on the floor and an identity as a floor, hall, and residential community member.
  2. Assist in residents developing communication, time management, well-being skills and competencies as well as affinity for NSU.

Individual Student Engagement

  1. Develop an open and genuine relationship with each resident while maintaining a high level of visibility and availability in your community.
  2. Learn about residents’ concerns, interests, and needs and work to provide engagement opportunities that are informed from knowledge gained from residents.

Recognition and Support

  1. Display interest and sensitivity to the concerns of our diverse population and refer residents, when necessary, to NSU and community resources.
  2. Recognize and celebrate the uniqueness of your residents and the NSU community.

Safety and Security

  1. Ensure the residence hall is a safe and secure environment to support residents.
  2. Communicate housekeeping and maintenance needs in a timely manner and follow up with appropriate parties.

Upholding Standards

  1. Encourage compliance with University policy and Residential Life policy by serving as a role model and addressing concerns around standard not being met.
  2. Educate residents about applicable policies and their responsibility to the larger NSU community.

Administrative Skills

  1. Complete the "on duty" responsibilities for your community.
  2. Complete administrative tasks that require accurate and timely execution.

Communication and Teamwork

  1. Demonstrate proficiency at expressing ideas and listening, asking for and providing productive feedback, and develop an effective communication style.
  2. Commitment and support to the Residence Life team.

2025-2026 RA Application Process

 

  • November 8, 2024: Application goes live

  • November 8, 2024 - January 12, 2025 : Various info sessions – you must attend an info session to receive an application

  • January 12, 2025, 11:59 p.m.: Deadline to submit your application

  • January 27 - 31, 2025 (week of): Individual interviews (mandatory)

  • Saturday, February 8, 2025: Second interview process (mandatory)

  • February 12, 2025: Candidate meet and greet (optional)

  • February 28, 2025: Offers made via email
